Saturday 20th June 2009 will host the seventh annual Solent Coasts Cycling Challenge that has managed to raise many thousand of pounds over the past six years, including £23,000 alone in 2008. Many people find it easier to stick to an exercise regime, stay motivated and lose weight when they have a goal to reach; the Solent Coasts Cycling Challenge is a perfect example of this. Instead of spending money on costly gym memberships, many people across the South dust the cobwebs off their bikes and start training for the challenge. The cycling challenge covers 66 miles of scenic routes and six ferry crossings that must be completed in one day. As the route is circular, cyclists can start and finish anywhere on the circuit but the official check in desk will be situated in Lymington; the route travels across the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, Southampton and Beaulieu. Event organiser, Malcolm Havercroft explains that the event is open to cyclists of all levels: "Whether entrants are experienced cyclists, members of a local cycling team, families or beginners who are willing to put in some training time, it is always a very enjoyable experience for all, a great way to get fit after Christmas and we see people coming back year after year." The event will raise very valuable funds for two different chosen charities- 'Hope and Aid Direct', and 'Growing Care', both of which rely heavily upon this event for essential funding. Ends February 2009 Notes to editors The Solent Coasts Cycling Challenge: The Solent Coasts Cycling Challenge is a self-navigating challenge and is open to all types of rider whether beginner, expert, cycling team, individual, or family group.
